Step Certification
AFAA's Step Certification is a one-day workshop which presents research
in physiology, biomechanics and injury prevention. Also covered are
skills for cueing, using music and building combinations. AFAA's Step
Certification is worth 5 CEUs for AFAA certified professionals.
Step Certification Prerequisites: AFAA Primary Group Exercise Certification, and Step Training Home Study are useful precursors for Step Certification. Current CPR required before certificate is issued.
Step Certification Includes: Study guide, one-day workshop, written and practical exams, one-year AFAA membership, including a subscription to American Fitness magazine.
Step Certification Study Materials: Step Training: A Manual for Instructors (required), Fitness: Theory & Practice textbook.
WHAT IS AFAA'S STEP CERTIFCATION?
AFAA's Step Certification is an intensive one-day review of both the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills necessary for safe and effective instruction of step training. AFAA's Step Certification workshop includes:
Research and scientific background in physiology and biomechanics
Step terminology
Verbal and visual cueing skills
Step pattern choreography and sequencing
Instructional skills and techniques

AFAA's Step Certification is for new and experienced step instructors.

Step Skills & Choreography or Step Teaching Skills Home Study
One-year experience teaching step
WHAT DOES AFAA'S STEP CERTIFICATION COST?
The Step Certification workshop fee is $239* (less 10% for current AFAA
members).
This fee includes:
Step Certification Study Guide
Full one-day AFAA Step Certification Review
Certification examinations (written & practical)
One year AFAA membership ($68 value) or membership extension to
current members
Subscription to American Fitness magazine (does not include postage
to addresses outside of the U.S.)
AFAA Step Certified Instructor certificate and I.D. card (upon successful
completion of both examinations)
For AFAA certified professionals who wish to register for CEU credit
only, not for certification, the Step Certification workshop fee is
$75. Receive 5 CEUs.
*The Step Certification fee does not include the required Step Training: A Manual for Instructors
